How Can diarrhoea Along With Swelling In The Eyes Be Treated?

I have had watery diarrhea, sensitive skin, aches, swollen eyes, tender stomach for 4 days. Am trying to hydrate with water and gatorade. Lab checked me and all is in normal range except sodium which is only slightly depressed. Eating very Ittle but starting to try banana & applesauce. I feel miserable.

Hello,

I had gone through your question and understand your concern. Considering your complaints, you seem to have a gastroenteritis. It's an infectious inflammation of the stomach and intestinal tract, that is accompanied by pain and diarrhea.

You can continue eating small and frequent meals, banana, applesauce, carrots, boiled rice, these foods help improving diarrhea.

You should take:
- probiotics (Enterogermina), for some days it helps to stabilize the intestinal normal bacterial flora,
- Ciprofloxacin to treat the infectious agent,
-Buscopan to improve intestinal muscle spasm,
- Acetaminophen to improve body aches.

However, sometimes diarrhea doesn't improve from medication, it depends on the cause. If your health condition gets worse, I suggest you go to the Emergency Room for further examinations and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata,
